Anyone wanting to get the most out of taking photographs can attend a meeting by the Wichita Wildlight Photographic Society.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 11, at the Boulevard Congregational Church, 5309 W. Gore Blvd, directly across from Eisenhower High School.

According to a press release, Clem Wehner will present his second part of his “How to Become a Great Photographer” series. He will present ways to use compositional techniques to set your images apart from the snapshots most people take.

The release said Wehner will show how to apply compositional techniques in one’s camera to capture the vision in their head.

The release said some of the topics discussed will include placement of the subject in the image, how to get the best angles, using artistic thirds, eliminating distractions, using zoom effectively, creating a sense of scale, showing 3-D depth in a 2-D image, using framing for emphasis, placing the horizon properly, how to create diagonal compositions, achieving image balance, using S-curves and triangles, telling a story effectively and much more.

The release said that while some people have a natural eye for some composition, knowledge of these techniques and deliberately using them will make a huge difference in taking photos. It will also show how to consistently compose great images andnot have to rely on lucky shots.

“In photography, it’s not the camera in your hand that makes you a good photographer, it’s the knowledge that’s in your head,” Wehner said.

On May 9. Jen Naburn will present “Posing, Prompts and Building a Photography Business.”

The public is welcome at all meetings, which are held 6:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome to attend, with no charge.

For more information, contact Clem Wehner at (580) 678-1498 or at wichitawildlight@gmail.com. Anyone can also go to the website.
