Tyler Price found the line in the TNT league at Thunderbird Lanes to put together this week’s best series of 769.
Price was one of several bowlers to have a ‘frame-away’ game, starting his night with a 277.
Games of 228 and 264 followed to make up the high set.
Tory Morales was a close second on the series charts with a 760 from the Suburban league at Twin Oaks.
Morales led the league with the set that went 246, 235 and 279.
And running thirteen in a row in two different leagues last week and leading senior league play was Richard Jacoby who was third highest on the overall series charts with a 757.
Jacoby started his week of high scoring in the Socialites with games of 202, 260 and 279 for a 741 series. Somewhere between the 260 and 279, Jacoby put his first thirteen in a row together for Andy Varipapa 300 number one.
Jacoby was back on the lanes in the Entertainers where his week’s high set of 757 came about on games of 221, 257 and 279.
This Varipapa was strung together at the end of game two and the front nine strikes of game three.
Andy Varipapa was a trick bowler that toured the US back in the 1950’s and 1960’s and is accredit-ed with naming ‘any twelve strikes together NOT in the same game’ a Varipapa 300.
Our only other 700 series came from Robert Copeland, also from the TNT league.
Copeland earned most consistent bowler of the week recognition as well with games of 237, 237 and 234 to make up a 708.
Teri Jester topped the ladies honor roll with games of 237, 257 and 200 for a 694 from the Enter-tainers.
League Highlights
The TNT league report showed Scott Brenke with a 252 game that was a smooth 108 pins over his 144 league average and Russell Nauman with a near perfect 277 score from the Entertainers.
Alex Bailey Sr. neared the century mark with a 254 game off a 169 average as he has continued success in the Early Birds but Craig Foster was singing the blues after leaving an “in the pocket” Sour Apple.
This split, the 5-7-10, is seen quite frequently during league play at Twin Oaks but seldom at Thunder-bird Lanes where this one showed up. The irony however is that it was left on lanes 3 and 4, the same pair where it is most common on Sill lanes as well.
The verdict is still out on what exactly causes this near impossible conversion to be left but we are open to suggestions.
Jonathan Nix had a stellar week in the Goodyear league where he rolled 252, 182 and 244 off a 172 average for a 678 series.
And we would like to take the opportunity to welcome John Henderson to our association and local league front. Henderson recently transferred to Fort Sill from Washington.
An avid bowler with an average and a list of honors to back him up, Henderson set pace in the Subur-ban league with an opening series of 698 on games of 236, 224 and 238 and he was ‘just playing around’.
We are looking forward to seeing his name in our weekly bowling news quite often.
Youth Highlights
Ali Biscaino was the youth bowler of the week with a 525 in the TBird Legends on games of 185, 148 and 192.
Joseph Resler led in the TBird HotShots, posting his first 200 game of 202 off a 122 average.
Resler finished with a 429 for series.
And bumper bowlers William Hern and William Mullins toppled the 100 marker with 119 and 115 respectively.
No-Tap News
Malden Smith led no-tap bowlers with an 850 victory on scratch games of 246, 290 and 263 in last Friday’s weekly senior Colorama at Thunderbird Lanes.
Barry Morris was a close second with 831, and John Fortner, who started with back to back 251’s, finished third with 816.
Margit Augustine topped the women’s charts with 818 followed by Shirley Hanley who claimed sec-ond place with a 765.
The handicap standings matched the scratch with Smith leading with 799, Morris in second with 750 and Fortner in third with 738.
Augustine and Morris took game one of Mystery Doubles with 571 but left games two and three the Malden Smith and his draw for the day, Armour Brown. They rolled 558 for the game two win and took game three with 577.
There were several Strike Pot ticket winners, Justin Williams, Herbert Scott, JP Nauman, Sam Bow-man and Chris Biegler, but Challenge shots were saved for the next event.
Senior bowlers age 50 and over are invited to join the fun every Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Lanes starting at 1 p.m.
