Lawton police are investigating the city’s 12th homicide of the year following an overnight shooting.
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of Southwest Park Avenue.
One person died as a result of the gunplay, according to Lt. Charles Whittington, Lawton Police Information Officer. No other information is being released as of Wednesday afternoon.
“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.
The death by homicide is the city’s first since Aug. 24 when James Major Douglas III was killed in a stabbing incident in the area of Northwest 23rd Street and Williams Avenue, according to Constitution records. No charges have been brought in this case.
Whittington asked that if you have any information on either case to call the department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 580-581-3270.
If you would like to remain anonymous you can contact Crime Stoppers of SW Oklahoma at 580-355-INFO (4636).
“We will bring you more information when it becomes available,” Whittington said.
