St. Mary’s scored in every inning except one while coasting to an 11-3 victory over Cameron in the final game of a three-game series at the McMahon Athletic Center Wednesday.
Cameron won the series opener but after that the Aggies couldn’t find a way to slow down the Rattlers as they won the last two games to take the series.
Cameron will hit the road Thursday as they make the long drive to Silver City, N.M., to face Western New Mexico for a Saturday noon doubleheader and a single game Sunday at Noon. The Aggies then host St. Edward’s for a three-game series that begins on Friday, March 22.
The Rattlers scored two runs in the first, second and third innings to take command and they kept padding the lead until they took firm command with four more runs in the top of the sixth.
St. Mary’s wound up with 12 hits and throw in seven walks and that just compounded the problems for the Aggies.
The Rattlers got big help from the bottom of the lineup as the sixth, seventh and eighth batters in the order produced seven of the hits and drove in seven of the runs for the visitors.
Cameron was able to collect just two hits, one from Kaiden Boren at the top of the order and the other from Makena Ross. The Aggies went down swinging seven times and that kept them from mounting a serious comeback like they did in the series opener when they rallied for an 8-4 victory.
CU Coach Emma Johansen used four pitchers trying to find some consistency in the circle. Stormee Reed started and went one inning, Jocelyn Bright came on after that and Tinley Schmidigal tried to slow the Rattlers down but without much success. Presleigh Payne wrapped up the game.
Reed gave up four runs, all earned, Bright gave up a pair of earned runs and Schmidigal was touched for five runs, four of which were earned.
