The NAACP of Lawton will host a “Quilts of Valor” event on Saturday, December 7 at 1 p.m., according to Branch #6131-B President Will Scott. The event will take place at the Patterson Community Center, located at No. 4 NE Arlington Ave in Lawton.
The idea was started on the idea of Committee Chair Phyllis Perry. In a press release, she stated:”Quilts of Valor honors service members and Veterans of the Armed Forces touched by war.”
The event cares for those touched by war directly and indirectly, including those who cared for ill, injured or wounded soldiers and their families, as well as combat and non combat veterans.
Representatives from the Quilts of Valor Foundation will be present at the event Saturday. Over 30 quilts have been made, both by hand and machine, to be presented to nominated participants, according to the press release.
The NAACP has included and recognizes veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces as a targeted group within its priorities for its unique and vital service to the nation in the preservation of freedom and liberty enjoyed by all. The NAACP is “pleased to host this event in Lawton and appreciates the partnership established with the Patterson Community Center and the Quilts of Valor Foundation,” as stated in the press release.
