Lawton Public Schools officials will send out Impact Aid forms to all of its students this week.
Impact Aid is money the federal government compensates school districts for educating children whose parents/guardians live/work on federal property.
Lawton Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Lance Gibbs said it is important for every parent to complete the form and return it to their child’s teacher by Wednesday, Oct. 2.
“LPS loses local tax dollars because the federal government either owns or has in trust properties in our boundaries. It’s essentially Uncle Sam paying his taxes to the local district. The government appropriates those dollars to school districts that have students identified as federally impacted,” Gibbs said.
The Impact Aid LPS receives goes into the general operating budget and is used to provide instructional supplies, to update technology, to maintain and improve facilities and for staff salaries.
Parents need to fill out a form for each school-aged child in their household, according to LPS officials.
Teachers will send the forms home on Tuesday, Oct. 1; school officials request that the forms be returned on Wednesday.
