Two former Lawton Correctional Facility inmates are accused of killing another inmate in May 2023 during a gang-related beating in a cell.
The Comanche County District Court issued felony arrest warrants Wednesday for Demondre Scott, 26, and Kunta Kentavius Pouncy, 24, records indicate. Both men received first-degree manslaughter and gang-related offense charges. Pouncy also received a misdemeanor charge of destroying evidence.
The men are accused of being among the inmates who caused the injuries during the May 6, 2023, beating of Loren Dean Tucker, 31, of Tulsa. Tucker was throwing up blood during an inmate count and sent to the hospital where he was admitted in critical condition with facial injuries and a busted blood vessel in his head which put pressure on his brain and caused it to shift to one side before his death, the warrant affidavit states.
Through investigation, Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General Agent Tommy Stranahan learned the attack happened in Tucker’s cell. His cellmate also had suffered substantial injuries and was hospitalized, the affidavit states. The cellmate said he and Tucker had gotten into a fight and that caused the injuries, Stranahan stated.
When the agent went to investigate the cell, it appeared it had been partially cleaned; however, a tooth and bloody gray sweatshirt were collected. In the dayroom trash can, a bloody towel and shirt were discovered, according to the affidavit. Closed circuit security video showed the events leading up to the discovery of Tucker.
Tucker, Scott and Pouncey were among 16 inmates seen entering the cell and all are affiliated with the Hoover Street gang, Stranahan stated. It was later learned Tucker’s cellmate had been assaulted prior to his and Tucker’s altercation in the cell, the affidavit states.
During an interview, Pouncey said he went in the cell to get his hair done and smoke but at first denied assaulting anyone, Stranahan stated. He then said he’d only hit Tucker with “body shots” before leaving the cell and said he returned to check on Tucker. He then said he could only speak for what he did and he can’t talk about what anyone else did to Tucker “because he will get killed,” according to the affidavit.
Later, Pouncey admitted to cleaning up blood in the cell and said Tucker had suffered court or “gang punishment” for a violation stemming from giving an unknown person a knife, Stranahan stated.
Scott told the agent he didn’t touch Tucker, but he’d hit Tucker’s cellmate for stealing from him, the affidavit states.
Scott has two prior felony convictions from March 2017 in Tulsa County for first-degree robbery and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Pouncy has a November 2018 conviction in Tulsa County for robbery or attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Oklahoma Department of Corrections records indicate Scott and Pouncy have been moved to the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.
