Two community artists will be offering art courses as part of the Carnegie Library Arts Classes series.
Enrollment opens Friday for the series of art courses that will be taught by local artists such as Katherine Liontas-Warren, Cameron University art professor, and Matthew Hughes, executive director of the Leslie Powell Art Gallery. Enrollment will close the day before the first class begins in January.
Courses will begin in the third and fourth weeks of January. Space is limited to 12 students per course, so early registration is encouraged. The fee for each six-week course is $50, and participants may enroll in multiple classes. All classes are designed for skill building and will start with introductory-level material to ensure accessibility for all skill levels, officials said.
Classes will be held once a week for an hour and a half over a six-week period. Topics include graphite, watercolor, charcoal and other specialized art techniques. While most courses are geared toward adults and high school students, middle-school students also may be considered for select classes.
To celebrate the launch of the Carnegie Library Arts Classes, all materials for the first series of courses will be provided. Students will get to keep any unused materials, such as paints, pencils or charcoals used during the course.
In addition to the multi-week courses, the program will include a complimentary, one-day art class each month, led by one of the series’ skilled instructors. These classes will provide a chance for participants to experience art-making in a supportive and inspiring environment at no cost.
