A July 29 wreck investigators said began with drunk driving and left a woman with the loss of her lower extremities and her driver injured has a Texas man in jail on $60,000 bond.
Sean Christopher Bryce, 25, of Houston, Texas, made his initial appearance Tuesday in Comanche County District Court where he received a felony charge of DUI with great bodily injury and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, transporting an open container, improper turn, failure to wear a seatbelt and speeding, records indicate. The felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Bryce was driving a black Hyundai at a high rate of speed eastbound on Cache Road in the turn lane when he struck a vehicle with a man and woman inside on July 29.
The driver of the struck car suffered head injuries and severe cuts to his head and ear; the passenger, a woman, suffered a head injury and the loss of her extremities, according to the charges.
Officer Zaria Jessie stated when Bryce was removed from his vehicle, a bottle with two Hydrocodone pills inside as well as an empty beer bottle in the floorboard and a large case of beer in the passenger floorboard were discovered. A blood draw was taken from Bryce but he declined to take the State’s breathalyzer test, the affidavit states.
He returns to court at 3 pm. Oct. 8 for his preliminary hearing conference.
