There have been many Polar Plunges over the years but Saturday the Area 4 Special Olympics will conduct its Polar Slide on the hill at Cameron Stadium.
People of all ages from school-age kids to city leaders are going to take part to help raise funds to support the Area 4 Special Olympics.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the slide will begin at 11 a.m.
Those who are taking part have raised $75 each to aid the cause and numerous groups of cheerleaders, dance teams, athletic teams and city leaders including Lawton Firefighters and Lawton Police have been raising funds as well.
“We had done the Polar Plunge in the past but this is going to be different and everyone seems excited to go down the hill to support Special Olympics,” Area 4 Coordinator Karen Granger said. “We are expecting a big crowd to not only slide but to cheer on those who are taking part.”
Funds raised go to help purchase the ribbons, medals and other awards that will be presented at the annual Area 4 Special Olympics later this spring.
