As one might expect, as we journey through more critical district games, there are going to be more and more tight games and those are among the toughest to predict.

However, we are excited entering this week’s picks after producing a 17-2 record last week to boost my confidence but as anyone who has even tried to make picks of any fashion, your downfall is always waiting just around the corner.

Right off the bat is one of the toughest games to predict in District 4A-1 with Cache heading to Weatherford Thursday to face the Eagles. On paper this appears to be a win for Weatherford but Cache is playing good defense and the offense seems to be coming into form. There is also another factor to be added to the equation; will the Eagles be looking forward to next week’s showdown with No. 1-ranked Elgin?

I can’t imagine that not being something that may affect this contest. The Eagles are 4-1 and feeling pretty good after beating arch rival Clinton, 21-10. You can bet that there will a good number of coaches from other 4A-1 teams who will probably be in Weatherford tonight to watch this matchup.

While we feel the Bulldogs are starting to come around and playing better on offense, we still see this as a tough place to win so our pick will still go like this: WEATHERFORD 27, Cache 21.

Here are the remaining picks for Week 6, and remember, home teams are listed in all-capital letters:

Thursday’s game

Empire 34, BURNS FLAT 12—The Bulldogs are playing well and leading District B-2 and Burns Flat is struggling.

Friday’s games

Eisenhower 36, PUTNAM CITY 28—This is probably one of the toughest picks of the week but the Eagles are getting healthy and with Serrie Sheridan and Rashad Hurt on the field we’re going with Ike.

Lawton High 30, WESTERN HEIGHTS 12—After a slow start the Wolverines are now 2-0 in District 5A-2 and the Jets are still struggling. Another win and the Wolverines will be in striking range of the playoffs.

MacARTHUR 32, Duncan 14—The Highlanders are flexing their muscle on both sides of the ball and while the Demons have a pretty good group of athletes, they just aren’t quite up to Mac’s level just yet.

Elgin 54, BRIDGE CREEK 6—The Owls will have little trouble in this one and you can bet the Elgin seniors will make sure nobody is looking ahead.

Altus 34, John Marshall 6—Another pretty easy pick. Jeremy Reed’s club is working toward a playoff berth and this will be another notch on its revolver.

Anadarko 27, PURCELL 7—Warriors are starting to get votes in the AP prep poll and playing well.

MARLOW 28, Crossings Christian 7—This is pretty simple, the Outlaws have played a much tougher schedule and Crossings Christian’s two district wins came on two of the teams at the bottom of the district standings. The home crowd will be rocking Outlaw Stadium Friday.

Frederick 21, HOBART 14—This is a little tougher pick but the Bombers played a really good Minco team to overtime and lost by a 30-24 score so that’s enough information for me.

COMANCHE 20, Dibble 13—When in doubt, go with the home team.

Thomas 32, APACHE 21—Hate to pick against the alma mater but Thomas seems to be a little more explosive offensively at this point.

SOUTHWEST COVENANT 26, Carnegie 14—Wildcats still trying to put a full 48 minutes together.

Walters 36, OKEMAH 6—Code Blue will have little trouble in this game.

Waurika 20, CENTRAL HIGH 18—Both teams are still trying to gain some consistency on offense.

Weleetka 21, CYRIL 20—Pirates have had their ups and downs but playing at home might get them over the hump in this one.

Geary 36, GRANDFIELD 12—Geary has played a tougher schedule and should be able to get this district win.

HOLLIS 36, Snyder 12—The Tigers just have too many weapons for the Cyclones to control.

Tipton 36, RYAN 32—OK, we saved the best matchup of the week for the final pick and this should be a dandy battle of 5-0 Class C powerhouse teams. They’ve had some good battles in the past few years but until somebody knocks of Tipton it’s hard to go against the Tigers.

Last week: 17-2, 89.5 percent. Season: 63-20, 75.9 percent.
