A Lawton woman is in jail on $100,000 bond after she was accused of smuggling five ounces of THC wax inside the Lawton Correctional Facility inside herself.
Michaela Bartholomew, 22, made her initial appearance Tuesday morning in Comanche County District Court where she received felony charges of conspiracy to bring drugs into a penal institution and bringing drugs into a penal institution, records indicate. She faces up to 10 years in prison per count if convicted.
Batholomew was found to be in possession of the wax Sunday during an x-ray scan while making a visitation to the prison, 8607 SE Flower Mound, according to Agent David Lewman. She admitted to carrying the package inside her genitals, the probable cause affidavit.
Saying it was her first time and she wasn’t being paid for the smuggling, she said the person who contacted her told her that sometimes people caught in her position get arrested and sometimes they get set free, the affidavit states. She was arrested.
Bartholomew returns to court at 3 p.m. March 25 for her preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
