The WWII Airborne Demonstration Team will hold its annual Open Hangar Day on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Frederick Airport, located at 3200 Paul Tibbets Road in Frederick. The event, which is free and open to the public, will offer a unique opportunity to explore WWII history firsthand and honor the legacy of the nation’s WWII veterans.
A Day of History and Community
Designed as a show of appreciation for the ongoing support from the local community, the Open Hangar Day will feature a range of interactive and educational activities. “Our community has been vital to our success, and this event is our way of saying thank you,” said Lance Faulkner, PAO/Marketing Director for the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team. “We hope to provide an unforgettable and informative experience for everyone who attends.”
Event Highlights
Attendees will be treated to a variety of attractions that reflect the experience of the WWII airborne soldiers, including:
• Airborne Demonstration: If weather permits, visitors will witness WWII-style parachute jumps, reenacted by the team’s trained parachutists.
• Aircraft Display: The event will showcase fully restored WWII-era aircraft, including the C-47 “Boogie Baby” and the C-49 “Wild Kat,” which both played key roles in the war.
• Military Equipment Display: Historical WWII military vehicles, weapons, and other equipment will be on display, offering a tangible connection to the era. • Hangar Tours: Guests can explore a WWII-era hangar at the historic Frederick Army Air Field, which served as a training site for B-25 bombers during the war. The public is invited to attend, and no prior registration is necessary. The event is family friendly, and donations are welcomed to support the preservation of the team’s historic assets, which include WWII aircraft and equipment.
