Three area vocal ensembles will raise their voices in song for “A Time for Music,” a free concert on at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Cameron University Choir, the Lawton Community Choir and the Lawton Academy of Arts & Sciences Secondary Choir will take the stage at the University Theatre for a program filled with inspiring selections.
The Cameron University Choir is composed of Cameron students, while the Lawton Community Choir is made up of CU alumni and students, area music teachers, military spouses, talented area high school students, City of Lawton employees, church musicians/pastors, and others. High school students from the Lawton Arts & Sciences Academy complete the roster for the concert.
“Every person who takes the stage for this special vocal concert has a love of creating and sharing beautiful music,” says Doris Lambert, conductor of the Lawton Community Choir. “All are bound together by their love of singing in a choir.”
“I love this concert because people have the opportunity to see that singing is a lifelong art, and it is community,” says Dr. Christian Morren, director of the Cameron University Choir. “It’s a special concert because you hear people of all ages and levels who love to sing. It is truly a moving experience to listen to all three groups sing together as one.”
Debbie Wood conducts the Lawton Academy of Arts & Sciences Secondary Choir. The ensemble will perform “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” arranged by Roger Emerson; “I Will Lift My Eyes” by Michael John Trotta; and “Come to the Music,” by Joseph M. Martin.
Accompanied by Tom Willoughby on piano, the Cameron University Choir will present “Cantate Hodie!” by Mary Lynn Lightfoot, Schubert’s “Sanctus,” “Come, Let’s Begin” by Thomas Weelkes and Bruce Tippette’s “Set Me As a Seal.”
The Lawton Community Choir will offer “Sure On This Shining Night” by Morten Lauridsen; “Freedom, Come For Me” by Pattie Drennan, featuring soloist: Vanessa Cleophat and David Hastings; “O My Love’s Like a Red, Red Rose” by René Clausen, featuring Hannah Page on violin and Susan Morren on cello; and “How Can I Keep From Singing?” by Rollo Dilworth. David Anderson provides piano accompaniment.
The concert will close with a piece that brings all three ensembles to the stage, “Praise His Holy Name.”
