Two Central Middle School students were arrested for assault after an incident involving students and staff, the Constitution has confirmed.
During the incident, Principal of Central Middle School, Mr. Skeeter Sampler, stated that the primary focus was the safety.
“My main focus was the safety of everyone involved,” he said. “Our team acted swiftly to analyze the situation and get all parties separated safely and attended to.”
Lynn Cordes, Executive Director of Communications for Lawton Public Schools, stated that after investigation of the incident, which involved students and staff, two students were arrested and charged with assault.
The incident, according to Cordes, was unexpected and unfortunate. Systems and communication are in place to keep students and administrators safe, as well as safety officers in the schools. Central Middle School principal Sampler stated that the school follows the district safety plan.
“My staff and I debriefed yesterday and this morning,” said Sampler. “Our school is more than a place of work for our staff and students. We are a family, and we are constantly providing opportunities outside of the normal school day to make positive impacts not only in our students’ educational careers in middle school, but also in our community. We have great students, great teachers, and incredible support from our families. Our faculty and staff will continue work hard to support our students.” said Sampler.
Cordes could not say what, if any, disciplinary action would take place for those involved due to federal protections.
“This is a serious matter,” said Sampler. “We are working with our LPS Police Department to provide full cooperation. Safety is our top priority, and we do not condone this behavior. I want our school community to know this was an unfortunate, isolated incident.”
No further information could be provided due to the nature of the incident involving the juvenile students. Neither Sampler nor Cordes could confirm any injuries to persons involved.
