A trio of arrests that took over 35,000 fentanyl pills off the streets around Halloween were the result of tricks without treats by the Lawton Police Special Operations Unit.
Two people were nabbed Monday night following controlled buys of the pills.
Detectives arranged the purchase of a large amount of fentanyl pills from Jiovante Demetrius Kilgore for $20,000, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Kilgore was seen arriving at an unspecified location around 10:30 p.m. Monday. He was seen getting out of a white SUV and walking with a black bag in hand to an apartment, the affidavit states. When officers pulled into the parking lot, Kilgore began walking away. When they neared, he was seen throwing the bag behind the SUV while continuing to walk away.
Kilgore and the driver, Anshante Rivera, were detained.
Rivera told police she had over 4,000 fentanyl pills in the front of her pants, according to the affidavit. She was arrested and, according to police, she had 4,987 pills along with $1,520.
Detectives also recovered 18,417 pills from the bag tossed by Kilgore, the affidavit states.
In a separate case, a Halloween morning traffic stop led to the discovery of over 17,000 more fentanyl pills, according to police.
Detectives with the Special Operations Unit were watching the area of Northwest 67th Street and Cache Road shortly before 11:15 a.m. when a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with dark windows passed southbound. A traffic stop was made and when speaking with the driver and passenger, police said, there was an odor of marijuana, according to the affidavit. Neither person had a medical marijuana card, police said.
A K-9 officer was brought in to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to narcotics in the Jeep. A search was made and behind the driver’s seat was a green and purple bag containing a large amount of fentanyl pills in multiple baggies, the affidavit states. The driver and passenger were arrested.
Through investigation, the driver was released from custody. The passenger, Azia R. Nelson, was booked into jail for aggravated fentanyl trafficking.
Police recovered 17,064 pills in total, according to the affidavit.
