ANADARKO — Police said 23 grams of methamphetamine found on a Fort Cobb man during a traffic stop led to him being jailed on $250,000 bond and being accused of drug trafficking.
Donald Leroy Wright, 43, made his initial appearance Wednesday in Caddo County District Court where he received a felony charge of trafficking in meth, records indicate. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Anadarko Police Office Logan Davis stated he saw Wright’s vehicle at a gas station and believed it didn’t have insurance. After checking to make sure it didn’t, he saw Wright get inside and begin to drive off and a traffic stop followed.
Wright was in the passenger seat and admitted he didn’t have insurance Davis stated. He also denied having drugs inside the vehicle except for marijuana and he said he had a medical marijuana card, the probable cause affidavit states. The officer had the driver and Wright step out.
The men gave the officer different stories of where they’d come from and Wright began acting nervous and speaking with a shaky voice although he did let Davis search his pockets, according to the affidavit. Wright said he’d last used meth two days before and when told there were suspicions he had drugs on him, began looking at his pants while offering to take his shoes off to show, Davis stated.
When Davis asked why he was getting two different stories from the men, Wright said he’d had meth earlier but had thrown it in the trash at another gas station before changing his story to having thrown it out the window, the affidavit states. He, again, changed his story and said he never had the drug on him, according to the officer.
Davis asked Wright if he’d agree to be X-rayed at the police department to prove he had no drugs on him and he first said, “OK, let’s go,” but en route to the police unit he pulled out two baggies containing 23 grams of meth, according to the affidavit.
Wright has a March 2016 guilty plea to a felony count of possession of a controlled substance and received a 10-year suspended sentence. A revocation conference for that case is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 16, records indicate.
