Friday proved to not be a good night for Southwest Oklahoma football teams as seven area teams were eliminated from the OSSAA football playoffs with only Tipton advancing to the second round.
The Tigers are now 11-0 after routing Balko-Forgan, 58-8, on the mercy rule Friday at Don Royal Stadium. The Tigers have won two straight Class C state titles and are the favorite to make it a three-peat after being unbeaten again this season. The Tigers will host Welch, which beat Sasakwa, 40-18, next Friday in the second round.
It was a tough night for the Lawton programs as all three city teams were eliminated in road contests.
In Class 6AI, Eisenhower gave Sapulpa a fight but was unable to hold on and wound up dropping a 46-31 decision in Coach Javon Harris’ first trip to the playoffs.
In Class 5A, McGuinness decked Lawton High, 42-7, and Guthrie beat MacArthur, 43-21.
Both teams in Class A also fell with Cashion eliminating Walters, 42-14, and Garber ousting Empire, 36-8.
In Class B eight-man action, top-ranked Laverne blanked Snyder, 51-0, and in Class C, Timberlake beat Mt. View-Gotebo, 54-8.
In Class 4A, Elgin routed Ardmore, 43-0, at the Owls nest, while Marlow slipped past Chisholm, 21-14, to advance.
