Neither board of education incumbent for Lawton Public Schools and Great Plains Technology Center filed for re-election, assuring new faces on both boards.
Wednesday was the final day of filings for candidates seeking seats on school boards across the state. In Comanche County, eight school board positions — including Great Plains Technology Center — drew only one candidate, meaning those residents will take their seats without an election.
The remaining school board seats in Comanche County will be filled by election, with the primary election set for Feb. 13 and the general election on April 2. Under state election law, if only two candidates file for a seat, they proceed to the general election. Seats that draw three or more candidates, as well those with unexpired terms, will participate in the primary. Candidates in the primary must win their seats by 50 percent plus one to avoid the general election.
