ELGIN – School district patrons seeking the Office No. 3 slot on the Elgin Board of Education must file their candidacy with the Comanche County Election Board Dec. 5-7.
The filing period opens 8 a.m. Dec. 5 and ends at 5 p.m. Dec. 7. The Office No. 3 incumbent is Jaimee Deel who has indicated to school officials that she will seek re-election. No one else has made a public announcement that they intend to file for the seat.
The primary election, if needed, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14. In addition, a general election will be held April 4, if needed. If Deel is the only candidate, she would automatically be elected to another five-year term.
If only two candidates file for the Office 3 seat, they would skip to the general election, according to state election laws. However, if three or more candidates file for office, the primary election would be held. The candidate receiving a majority of votes cast would be elected. If no candidate in the race receives a majority of votes (50% plus one vote), the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes would advance to the general election.
The Comanche County Election Board is located at 315 SW 5th Street in Lawton. All candidates must file the required paperwork in person.
