The City of Lawton’s Arts and Humanities Division and the McMahon Auditorium Authority have set a new Nov. 22 nomination deadline for the 2024 Lawton Cultural Awards and the Art Purchase Competition Award.
The awards celebrate the community’s outstanding contributions to the arts and humanities. Awards are given in three categories:
• Citizen in the Arts and/or Humanities: Recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exemplary commitment and contributions to the cultural life of Lawton.
• Educator in the Arts and/or Humanities: Celebrating educators who have significantly impacted the arts and humanities through their teaching and mentorship.
• Business/Organization in the Arts and/or Humanities: Honoring businesses or organizations that have shown outstanding support and dedication to the arts and humanities in Lawton.
The Art Purchase Competition Award, sponsored by the McMahon Auditorium Authority, provides an opportunity for artists to showcase their talents. The McMahon Auditorium Authority Arts and Humanities Committee will serve as the jury, selecting three pieces of artwork from one artist. These chosen artworks will be presented to the three winners of the 2024 Lawton Cultural Awards, and the artists will receive a $900 prize for their three pieces.
Nominations may be submitted by visiting the SWOKarts.com site and filling out nomination forms.
