WALTERS — The driver in a September 2023 wreck that killed a Texas motorcyclist is now wanted for manslaughter.
On Tuesday, the Cotton County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant for Johnathan Lynn Wyatt, 37, of Hobbs, N.M., for a count of first-degree manslaughter, records indicate. The crime is punishable by between four years to life in prison.
Wyatt was driving a Ram 1500 that collided with motorcyclist Bobbie J. Bessette around 7:20 a.m. Sept. 18, 2023, in the northeast-bound lane of Interstate 44, 1 mile south of Walters, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Ryan Hayes’ report.
Bessette, 46, of Burkburnett, Texas, was wearing a helmet. She died from internal and external head and trunk injuries, according to Hayes. At the time of the wreck, Wyatt lived in Edmond.
Wyatt and his 9-year-old passenger were uninjured, as was Bobby J. Montgomery, 38, of Denison, Texas, the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado, and his 31-year-old passenger, Hayes reported.
The charges follow further investigation and a toxicology report.
