A 62-year-old Lawton man pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty on Tuesday.
Gary Clark Ivory entered his plea before Comanche County District Judge Grant Sheperd to the two felony counts. He received two five-year suspended sentences, to run concurrently, records indicate. He was ordered to pay $1,921.75 in court costs and fines.
Gary Ivory and his brother, Danny Glenn Ivory, 60, were each charged with the felony counts in July 2022.
Charges against Danny Glenn Ivory were dismissed on March 13, records indicate.
Lawton police began investigating after Animal Control discovered two dogs dead on July 14, 2022, in an unshaded kennel with no water at 1811 NW Pollard, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The two large dogs were found locked inside the kennel and, at the time of arrival, the temperature was 103 degrees, the warrant affidavit states. Danny Ivory said he gave the dogs water that morning.
A necropsy was done on the dogs and it was determined they died of heat stroke and “agonal” death, according to the affidavit. Johnson stated the initial temperature reading on the animals were too high for the thermometer to read.
As part of Gary Ivory’s sentencing, he is to be under two years of Department of Corrections supervision and is to have no pet ownership during that time.
