Prom is a time to dance, party with friends and have a great time. Most make it home safely, but some don’t.
After attending a presentation Monday on prom safety, Alyssa Beathea-Tolver, a senior at MacArthur High School, plans to have a slumber party with her friends after prom.
“I thought it was informative in reassuring not to take drugs and alcohol on prom night and in general so you can save your life, people in the cars life and people on the roads life,” Beathea-Tolver said. “It’s not worth it. You could just not go home and that’s just kind of not fair to your parents or other people.”
An Oklahoma Highway State Trooper gave a presentation Monday about driving under the influence and how it can affect anyone, including prom attendees. He included photos of cars that have been totaled by drunk drivers, one including a Chevy HHR that was demolished by a semi. The semi was damaged severely; however, the only thing left of the HHR was its crushed frame.
Gracelynn Baumgartner, a senior at MHS, said the presentation was “absolutely great.”
“I think those little details, when he talked about death, that personally hit everybody,” said Baumgartner.
