DUNCAN — A Duncan man is in jail on $50,000 bond after he was accused of assaulting his cousin for taking too long of a shower.
Anthony Raymond Jenkins, 22, of Duncan, made his initial appearance Wednesday in Stephens County District Court for a felony charge of domestic abuse — assault and battery, records indicate.
Duncan police were called around 10 p.m. to meet the adult cousin. The victim told Officer Gene Bratcher that his cousin, Jenkins, assaulted him at their family home at 506 N. C Street, the probable cause affidavit states.
The man said he was in the shower when Jenkins began flipping the lights on and off. He said Jenkins then moved the shower curtain, grabbed him by the jaw and began hitting and grabbing him before punching him in the right cheek, the affidavit states. He said his aunt, Jenkins’ mother, separated them and he got dressed and fled the house.
Bratcher noticed he had a swollen eye and cheekbone area and a swollen and bleeding lip; there were also abrasions on his back near his shoulder blade.
The officer went to the home and spoke with the man’s aunt who said she’d been in the bedroom when she heard screaming and fighting from the bathroom, Bratcher stated. She knew the nephew had been in the shower for an hour-and-a-half and that Jenkins was getting “very angry,” according to the affidavit. She said she found Jenkins bleeding from the thumb and he said the cousin did it.
Jenkins, who had been drinking, appeared unsteady on his feet and was agitated, according to the officer. He admitted to getting angry at his cousin for the long shower and said when he moved the shower curtain to tell him to get out, his cousin bit his thumb, causing it to bleed, the affidavit states. He said there’d been shouting and his cousin threatened him with a knife when the fight began, Bratcher stated.
Jenkins has a November 2023 felony conviction in Stephens County for a count of assault and battery on a police officer and is serving a five year suspended sentence, records indicate.
Held with the stipulation he have no contact with his cousin, Jenkins returns to court at 9 a.m. May 22 for his preliminary hearing conference.
