The jury trial of a 62-year-old man accused of shooting and killing his roommate resulted in a guilty verdict Tuesday.
A Comanche County jury determined Wesley Blake Moore, of Lawton, was guilty of first-degree manslaughter and recommended he serve 20 years in prison.
Scheduled to last as long as four days, the trial and verdict came Tuesday following testimony and evidence presentation.
Moore was found guilty of shooting Corliss Howell, 64, during a Jan. 21 incident at the home they shared at 1604 SW E. A third housemate testified Moore had been upset with her and Howell for not bringing home any whiskey. She said he was already intoxicated and, after leaving the room and returning with a pistol, he shot Howell in the face.
Moore was originally charged Jan. 29 with a felony charge of first-degree murder — deliberate intent, but the charge was amended at his preliminary hearing in July.
A pre-sentencing investigation was requested by Moore’s attorney, Clay Shepperson. He will be formally sentenced at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 8, 2025, in Presiding District Judge Emmit Tayloe’s court
