A Lawton man is in jail on $50,000 bond after he was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and of beating her with a cane.
Investigators said he violated a protective order granted after he was charged in February with a misdemeanor domestic abuse case against the same woman.
Lloyd Walter Butler Jr., 56, made his initial appearance Thursday in Comanche County District Court where he received a felony charge of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and a misdemeanor count of breaking and entering, records indicate. Due to three prior felony convictions, he faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Lawton Police Officer Travis Longacre stated he was called Tuesday to a home in the 100 block of Southwest 18th and met with a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, identified as Butler, had broken into her house and assaulted her with a cane. She said she’d been asleep when he pushed his way through the front door, picked up a cane, accused her of sleeping with another man and started beating her with the cane, the probable cause affidavit states.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and treated.
It was learned there was probable cause to arrest Butler for violation of a protective order as well as the new charges, the affidavit states. The victim had asked for and received a protective order against Butler on March 14. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of domestic abuse — assault and battery and received a one year suspended sentence on May 8, records indicate.
Butler has prior felony convictions: Oklahoma County, April 2004, uttering a forged instrument; Grady County, July 2005, second-degree burglary; and Comanche County, February 2010, robbery by force or fear, records indicate.
As part of his bond conditions, Butler is to have no contact with the woman. He returns to court at 1 p.m. Sept. 13 for his preliminary hearing on the new charges.
