ELGIN — On Saturday, Jan. 28, Oklahoma author Bart Taylor will visit the library to talk about one of the Sooner State’s most famous cowboys – Will Rogers.
Illustrated by Greg White, Taylor’s children’s book, “Will Rogers and the Great White House Sleepover” tells the story of when Rogers was invited to stay in the White House during Calvin Coolidge’s presidency (1923-1929).
“We’re really looking forward to his appearance and learning more about Will Rogers,” Elgin Community Library Director Leslie Durham said.
Taylor, a middle school geography teacher from Tulsa, has twice won awards from the Oklahoma Museum Association, according to Barnes and Noble’s website.
He is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and in 2014 earned his MA in U.S. history Northeastern State University.
His passion for U.S. history has been demonstrated at Claremore’s Will Rogers Memorial Museum, Tulsa’s Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa’s The Gathering Place, and Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park in northwest Arkansas.
Starting at 11 a.m., Taylor’s presentation and discussion also includes a rope trick/lassoing demonstration.
Published by Yorkshire Publishing, “Will Rogers and the Great White House Sleepover” is available at BarnesandNoble.com.
