A trial of a Lawton man accused of kidnapping a Lyft driver before making him drive them to commit gunplay has been continued due to a witness unable to attend due to being deployed overseas.
Augustin Lester Suarez-Oliver, 24, of Lawton, had been slated to begin trial Thursday in Presiding Comanche County District Judge Emmit Tayloe’s court for assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and feloniously pointing a firearm, records indicate.
Wednesday, the District Attorney’s office requested a continuance for the trial due to a witness serving in the Armed Forces being unable to testify due to being deployed to Djbouti, Africa, on a Counter Terrorism assignment.
Tayloe granted the request and continued the case until the October/November jury trial docket.
Suarez-Oliver is accused of kidnapping a Lyft driver on May 30, 2022, and of firing gunshots while being driven to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Northwest 22nd.
Suarez-Oliver remains in the Comanche County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
