APACHE — The Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Veterans Organization (KCAVO) is hosting a pair of events Sunday to raise funds for the organization’s upcoming activities.
An Indian taco sale will be at 11 a.m. at Apache High School. KCAVO spokesman Clifford Takawana said you’ll want to get there early as the sale will conclude when all the food is consumed, which is usually around 2 p.m. Cost is $10 and includes taco, dessert and drink.
“Lisa Lookinglass, known far and wide as one of the best breadmakers, will once again be making her outstanding frybread, which is the key ingredient of the Indian Taco,” he said. “Now where can you get a meal like that served with a smile for $10?”
A bingo session will begin at 2 p.m., immediately after the sale’s conclusion, Takawana said. There will be 15 rounds of bingo conducted at a cost of $15 which covers all games. He said there will be some terrific prizes.
“You will be surprised at the quality of our prizes and will have some raffle items and a cake walk to spice things up for the afternoon,” he said. “It will be a fun time with good fellowship for all and will help support a worthy cause.”
Proceeds from the event will help the KCA Veterans conduct all the activities scheduled this year, according to Takawana. The first event will take place, also in Apache, on Oct. 22 at the First Baptist Church.
“Our Quilts of Valor presentations will be made to deserving veterans from this area,” he said. “The ladies of the Quilts of Valor are so very generous and giving that they will present a handmade quilt to a veteran on this night. We provide the ceremony and they provide the quilts and they are beautiful.”
The KCAVO will provide a veterans parade for the area on Nov. 9 in support of Veterans Day, Takawana said. Other events include the National Vietnam Commemoration Day in March and then the organization’s largest event, the KCA
Annual Veterans Day Pow Wow on May 17 at the Lawton Fair Grounds to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
“Help us support and serve our honored veterans by coming by and have an Indian taco and play a little bingo,” he said.
