A former Lawton Correctional Facility inmate serving a life sentence for rape has been charged for assaulting a pair of corrections officers during a March 12 incident at the prison.
The Comanche County District Court filed felony charges Wednesday against Dayvante Sterns, 27, for two counts of assault and battery on corrections officers, records indicate.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Sterns had left the medical unit on March 12 to speak with an officer about doing a cell move. When ordered to leave the office, Sterns refused, turned off the office lights and forced the officer to the floor, apparently attempting to sexually assault her by removing her shirt, according to Office of the Inspector General Agent Tommy Shanahan. Backup officers arrived and placed Sterns in restraints.
Sterns also is accused of choking another officer while being taken into custody.
Stranahan stated Sterns claims to have mental health issues, although he has not been diagnosed.
Sterns has prior felony convictions in Oklahoma County from August 2019 for robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary and first-degree rape, records indicate.
According to Oklahoma Department of Corrections records, he is being housed in the Allen Gamble Correctional Center in Holdenville.
