The horde came mid afternoon, not to pilfer, but to spread holiday joy.
Ike high school pre-nursing students, along with instructor Angela Howard, came to Ike elementary to read books, give goodie bags and share life stories to kindergarteners.
Howard teaches Ike high schoolers in pre-nursing, preparing them for LPN and RN school.
“They’re learning all the different body systems, the hands-on skills and the knowledge that will help apply for when they decide to go on to CNA, LPN or even RN school,” Howard said.
The festive event is a new way to give back to the community. Every month, they do outreach, this year being the first for kindergarteners, “with hopefully many more to come.
“The pre-nursing club is all about giving back to the community,” Howard said. “Last month, we went to McMahon Tomlinson to give back to the elders. This month, we’re doing Christmas with the Kindergarteners. Next month we’re giving back to the homeless.”
It’s always worth it to see their reactions.
“I really just love to see all the kindergarteners and light up their faces and let them know that they are super special,” Howard said. “Christmas just has a magical miracle.”
As a nurse and teacher, Howard enjoys working with kids of all ages and giving back to the community so everyone at any age feels special. And from that, the community projects were established.
