Eisenhower Middle School received a potential threat Thursday causing the school to lockdown around 3 p.m., district officials said. After an investigation, no threat was identified.
Lynn Cordes, executive director of communications for the district, said Lawton Public Schools was made aware of the threat, immediately initiating safety protocols to identify it.
It is unclear what the threat was, although comments on social media said a child had a firearm on the premises. Cordes said after a thorough investigation, no weapons were found. The district also initiated its emergency protocol, notifying parents and others via text and phone messages of the situation.
“As always, our first priority is the safety of our students and staff,” Cordes said in a statement. “LPS Police Department and EMS staff followed procedures to identify the potential threat. Once it was determined that it was safe to dismiss students, they were released under normal procedures.”
