A Fort Sill Soldier was found dead in his barracks room on Monday, according to post officials.
There is no reason to suspect foul play or self-harm at this time.
Specialist Luke Thomas Rhoades, 20, assigned to Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery, was pronounced dead by emergency first responders after a welfare check by members of his unit found him unresponsive.
Rhoades was a healthcare specialist who was previously deployed to South Korea in 2022, where he supported the health and well-being of his fellow servicemembers.
Lt. Col. Elijah Ward, 3-13 FA Commander, issued a statement recognizing this “challenging time,” and extended deepest condolences to Rhoades’ family, friends, and fellow soldiers.
“Losing a member of our military team is an immense tragedy that affects us all,” he said. “Specialist Rhoades will be remembered for his selfless service, care for his fellow soldiers as a medic and dedication to his country.”
Fort Sill’s Criminal Investigations Division is conducting an investigation.
