A former Flower Mound physical education teacher charged with pushing a first-grader during class had his teacher certificate suspended and the Oklahoma State Board of Education has begun efforts to revoke his teaching certificate.
On Tuesday, the Board rescinded Rocky Lane Flint’s certificate and identified him as a former Flower Mound teacher and his pending criminal charge as the reason. He was one of 11 teachers selected for decertification.
Flint, 48, of Lawton, was charged Dec. 18, 2024, with a misdemeanor count of assault and battery on a school student following a thorough investigation by the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department. The crime is punishable by up to a year in the county jail and/or a fine up to $2,000.
Flint has plead not guilty.
This incident happened Nov. 13, 2024.
The Comanche County District Attorney released the redacted 30 second video of the incident. It shows Flint call a first-grade girl student over during a game in the gym. When another child moves in front of her, Flint is seen pushing the girl’s head strongly and, while there is no audio, he is seen saying something to the girl.
During an interview with investigators on Dec. 9, Flint said that after watching the video, “he was shocked that he assaulted a child in his class and didn’t believe he did that to a student even though he saw the video footage,” the probable cause affidavit states. During the video, he admitted to pushing the girl’s head and said it was wrong, but he couldn’t remember why he did it, Torres stated. Flint said the girl was a good student, had no prior troubles and did nothing wrong.
Flint was asked how he’d respond if the same incident had happened to one of his children and he said he would expect an apology and the teacher get reprimanded by the school, according to the affidavit. At no point in the interview did Flint express remorse or offer an apology for the incident and at the end of the interview he blamed his behavior on possible diabetic issues, the detective stated.
Following the interview, Torres reached out to Senior Investigator Brad DeLozier of the Oklahoma State Department of Education who requested all the videos pertaining to the case for administrative action, the affidavit states. After a forensic interview was conducted with the girl, Flint was placed under investigation and was under administrative leave by the OSDE, the affidavit states.
Following his initial appearance Dec. 20, 2024, in Comanche County District Court, Flint was released on a $1,000 own recognizance bond with the order to have no contact with the student or her parents.
Flint returns to court at 9 a.m. Feb. 19, 2024, for sounding of the misdemeanor trial docket, records indicate.
