If you live near MacArthur, Lawton High or Eisenhower, don’t be surprised if you see the lights burning at their football practice fields as the local and area teams try their best to beat the heat for practice.
Teams are into their second week of drills and with full pads now being used at times, coaches and trainers are doing their best to keep everyone safe.
MacArthur is driving up the HE Bailey Turnpike to Carl Albert Thursday for a multiple-team scrimmage according to head coach Brett Manning. The Highlanders have some solid talent and you can bet many of those youngsters will see plenty of snaps.
Eisenhower will also be heading to Carl Albert for its first taste of outside competition. It’s doubtful that the schedule will include sessions with Ike and Mac going against each other due to the fact they play each other in a couple of weeks.
Lawton High School head coach Lorenzo Williams and his Wolverines will welcome Norman North for a scrimmage on Friday and you can expect a fairly late starting time for the varsity units, probably around 7 or 7:30 p.m.
Elgin will swing into action at 6 p.m. Friday when Bethany and Guthrie come down the turnpike for a three-way scrimmage.
For the three city teams and Elgin, one scrimmage is all they will have as all four of those teams will be playing games on Week Zero and both games should draw huge crowds.
On Thursday, Aug. 29 it will be Elgin coming to Cameron Stadium to face the Highlanders. And the following night, Friday, Aug. 30, it will be the annual Lawton High-Eisenhower battle at Cameron Stadium. The start times on both those season openers may be changed but for now they are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Cache is not playing on Week Zero so the Bulldogs are going to be scrimmaging Lone Grove Saturday and then visit Plainview for a multiple-team scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 29.
