Elgin’s softball team raced through its Class 5A regional tournament without a loss, beating El Reno, 8-3, to earn a berth in the upcoming Super Regional.
Levi Garrett’s Owls beat Santa Fe South, 23-1, in the first game, then blanked El Reno, 10-0, to reach the title game.
After El Reno eliminated MacArthur, 17-0, the Owls and Indians met in the title game and Elgin took command early and was awarded the title when heavy rain and lightning stopped the action.
The weather may affect Cache’s home Class 4A Super Regional against Verdigris that is scheduled today at Cache. Officials will work to prepare the field and if conditions aren’t good, then the event will be delayed until crews can make the field playable.
