Elgin coasted past outmanned Bridge Creek, 44-0, to run its record to 6-0 setting up a critical home matchup next week against Weatherford which should pretty much give the winner a path to the District 4A-1 title.
Just north at Western Heights High School, Lawton High School routed the Jets, 59-0, to go to 3-0 in District 5A-2 action and take another step closer to a playoff berth for the Wolverines after starting the season 0-3. LHS will host El Reno Thursday in its next district game.
The LHS defense got a big pick-6 from Marcus Rucker from 20 yards out for the first score and just minutes later in the first quarter, quarterback Pene Vasiagote fired a 9-yard TD pass to Tavarious Deans. Connor Duffey tacked on his second PAT and LHS was in command.
Vasiagote, making his first start at QB this season, followed with an 11-yard touchdown run with 1:45 left in the first quarter and Duffey was good on another PAT and it was 21-0.
Then Vasiagote fired a short screen pass to Nate Jones in the left flat and Jones burst 48 yards to complete the nifty scoring play and arrange a 28-0 score.
It was never any closer and the second half just breezed past as the teams agreed to have a running clock to get both teams off the field and end the mismatch.
The evening didn’t go as well for Eisenhower as the Eagles started fast, owning a 7-7 draw with Putnam City in the early going but the Eagles were never able to have any offensive consistency and wound up dropping a 35-7 setback.
After the Pirates scored on a short TD pass at the 9:57 mark of the first quarter, Ike used a long pass from Charlie Trachte to Serrie Sheridan that wound up at the PC 1-yard-line.
It took two plays to get the ball in the end zone and knot the score.
But after that the Eagles struggled to move the football consistently, the Pirates were able to make the most of their chances as a couple of scoring passes bumped the score to 21-7 at halftime.
Ike had its chances, using a nice completion from Trachte to Aidan Dingle and a late hit on Trachte that set up the Eagles at the PC 35. But that drive faltered and the Pirates were able to take over and move downfield for its third TD of the half to make Ike’s comeback bid much tougher.
As expected, No. 1-ranked Elgin had little trouble against Bridge Creek, coasting to a 44-0, victory to set up a big showdown in District 4A-1 against Weatherford Thursday in Elgin. The Owls are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in district while Weatherford is 5-1 overall and also 3-0 in district.
The Owls needed just 18 seconds to score as Brody Morrison took a sweep 69 yards to paydirt and Adan Delgado tacked on the conversion and Elgin had all the points it would need.
A quick defensive stop gave the ball right back to the Owls and this time quarterback Tres Lorah found tight end Adam Eaton for a 39-yard TD pass as the lead went to 14-0. Once again BC couldn’t move the ball and this time the Owls didn’t go far with Ritson Meyer scoring on a 2-yard run for a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
Another 21-point barrage in the second quarter and the starters didn’t see the field in the second half.
Lorah and Morrison connected on a 75-yard TD bomb, then Lorah hit Kason Meyer on a 71-yard bomb. And for good measure, Lorah found Morrison for another TD pass, this one from 41 yards out.
The four TD passes now gives Lorah 62 career touchdown passes with four more regular-season games remaining starting with Thursday showdown with Weatherford.
