The Comanche County Election Board will meet Friday to certify the results of the Republican runoff election for sheriff.
Board members will meet at 1 p.m. in the Comanche County Courthouse, Southwest 5th and C.
The meeting will allow the three-member board to certify Michael Merritt as the winner of the Aug. 27 runoff election to select the Republican nominee who will face Democrat David Stroud in the Nov. 5 General Election.
That process should have been completed Aug. 30, but the election board suspended the certification process after Comanche County District Attorney Kyle Cabelka filed a petition asking Comanche County District Court to deny certification because of irregularities that had been identified. Comanche County District Judge Jay Walker heard arguments Tuesday and ruled he hadn’t heard any evidence supporting the requirement that the results of the election could not be determined with certainty, denying Cabelka’s request. Walker also ordered the election board to certify the election results.
That ruling confirms Merritt was the winner of the Republican runoff, besting challenger Andy Moon by a 628-vote margin.
