ELGIN – Duncan rallied to win a five-set volleyball match against the Elgin Lady Owls Monday, Aug. 22.
Duncan won the first set 25-21 after Elgin allowed the visitors to get a large early lead.
“We turned it on toward the end of the first set but ultimately fell short,” Elgin head coach Jenny Walker said.
Elgin responded by winning the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-18, needing only one more set to claim the win.
“We came out absolutely on fire. We played clean volleyball and by keeping Duncan out of (its) system from the service line. Our serving was amazing,” Walker said.
But the next two sets were another story as Duncan won, 25-15 and 25-9.
“Ultimately, we took out foot off the gas,” Walker said. “Duncan really played well, and we made just a few too many errors that ended up costing us. All in all, the girls played hard and fought with passion.”
Elgin was scheduled to play at Weatherford Aug. 25 and again in the Weatherford Tournament Saturday, Aug. 27. Elgin stays on the road with away matches at Blanchard on Aug. 29 and at Altus on Aug. 30.
