Dr. Jean Hausheer wants to use more than 40 years of medical experience at the State Capitol to benefit Oklahomans in Senate District 32.
Hausheer retired in April from the University of Oklahoma’s Dean McGee Eye Institute, ending a 42-year career in ophthalmology. Medicine is a family affair; she followed her father into the medical profession, becoming only the third woman accepted into the University of Missouri’s ophthalmology program.
Since retirement, she has been devoting her energies to Hearts That Care, providing free eye care to that health and dental clinic.
Hausheer said she wants to bring that same dedication to the Senate, citing health care as a top priority. It’s vital, she said, explaining while almost 20 percent of the state’s budget is devoted to health care, the state has “exactly ZERO physicians at the decision making table.” Her medical background crosses into other issues, saying she pledges to protect life, from conception to death.
Other priorities include promoting economic growth and job creation; reducing regulations and taxes on businesses; and prioritizing fiscal responsibility to reduce the cost of living.
Hausheer is married, with six children between herself and her husband.
