Investigators said a domestic incident between a Lawton man and his girlfriend escalated into a violent kidnapping case.
Darrin Lane Colby, 33, made his initial appearance Thursday in the Comanche County District Court where he was charged with a felony count of kidnapping after former felony convictions, records indicate. Due to his priors, he faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.
Lawton Police Officer Nicholas Clayton stated he was called around 2:45 a.m. Oct. 21 to a home in the 3100 block of Northwest Ferris Avenue regarding a physical domestic. He spoke with a woman who said she’d been in a romantic relationship with Colby for approximately a month and that he had been staying at her home.
Earlier that night, the woman said, she had plans to go to the store and then to a friend’s house when Colby came home and stopped her from leaving, Clayton stated. She said he grabbed her face, pushed her into a wall and fell on top of her, holding her down while he removed her shoes, the probable cause affidavit states. When she told him she was going to call the police, she said he took her phone, turned it off and repeatedly told her he would kill her if she left, according to the officer. She said he’d been to prison and had committed violent acts so she feared he would hurt her.
A witness told Clayton Colby had barricaded the front door with a couch and other items so no one could enter or exit the home, the affidavit states. The woman said once he was aware the police were called, he approached her with a pocket knife in his hand and stabbed wall while, again, telling her he would kill her, Clayton stated.
Colby has prior felony convictions from Comanche County: November 2011, uttering a forged instrument; February 2014, knowingly concealing stolen property; January 2017, uttering a forged instrument; and October 2017, larceny of an automobile.
Held on $50,000 bond with the stipulation he have no contact with the woman or the home, Colby returns to court at 3 p.m. Jan. 10, 2025, for his preliminary hearing, records indicate.
