WICHITA, Kan. — A five run fifth inning propelled No. 6 Oklahoma State to a 6-5 victory over Wichita State Wednesday night at C. Howard Wilkins Stadium.
The win improves the Cowgirls to 36-8 on the year (13-5 in the Big 12). The loss drops the Shockers to 19-18 overall (10-8 in the American Conference).
Caroline Wang opened the scoring by grounding into a double play that scored a run. Wichita State answered back with a pair of runs over the next two innings. The first on an error by OSU and the second via a solo home run from Taylor Sedlacek.
Wichita State added two more to its tally in the fourth on an RBI single from Krystin Nelson and a run-scoring fielder’s choice from CC Wong.
In the fifth, Micaela Wark singled to right to score a run, Megan Bloodworth tallied an RBI on a single and Jilyen Poullard hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game up at five.
Later in the inning, Wang brought home her second RBI of the game to give the Cowgirls the lead they would not relinquish.
Offensively, OSU was led by Wang (1-for-3 with two RBIs), Wark (1-for-3 with an RBI) and Bloodworth (1-for-2 with an RBI)
Ivy Rosenberry improved to 11-3 on the season going 3 2/3 innings and striking out five. Allison Cooper took the loss for the Shockers dropping her to 4-5.
The Cowgirls will head home for a seven-game homestand opening with Texas Tech April 19-21 at Cowgirl Stadium.
