A woman accused of being part of a plot with her boyfriend that led to the death of a man for his vehicle was bound over for trial Friday.
Following a preliminary hearing before Comanche County Special District Judge Christine Galbraith, Shavonda Wilson, 28, of Lawton, a preponderance of evidence led to her being bound over for trial for counts of second-degree murder, unlawful removal of a dead body and unauthorized use of a vehicle, records indicate. The murder charge is punishable by between 10 years to life in prison.
Wilson joins Joshua Andrew Smith, 26, of Lawton, was also bound over for trial in November 2024. He is accused of the strangling death of Shane Chockpoyah, 48, in December 2022.
Smith made his initial appearance Jan. 25, 2023, in Comanche County District Court where he first received felony charges of second-degree murder and unlawful removal of a dead body, records indicate.
Records indicate Smith. Pleaded not guilty at his formal arraignment and is scheduled at this point for the February/March jury trial docket.
Lawton Police discovered the body of Chockpoyah, 48, around 1 p.m. Dec. 31, 2022, at 706 SW Monroe. Chockpoyah was found lying on his back in a pink and white comforter with a Native American blanket over him. He had scratches to his right cheek and jaw area and ligature marks on his neck and a black power cord wrapped around it, the probable cause affidavit states.
Wilson’s charges follow the May, 2024 return of Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) DNA analysis of evidence showed her DNA was found on multiple items recovered from the scene, according to the affidavit.
Wilson is scheduled to return to District Judge Grant Sheperd’s court at 9 a.m. Feb. 11 for her formal arraignment.
