The City of Lawton issued permits for projects valued at almost $22.2 million last month, with the vast majority being undertaken by the city.
The city also issued three new single-family home permits valued at $755,949 in October.
The largest permit, valued at $18 million, was for the new aquatics center in Elmer Thomas Park. Work has already begin on the project, which is to include swimming pools and a lazy river.
The second-largest permit, valued at $3 million, was to remodel 24,000 square feet in Central Plaza downtown. The FISTA project will include a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) lab, as well as maker space. The lab is funded by an American Rescue Plan Act grant and is designed to encourage high school and college-age students to enter STEM careers.
Other larger commercial permits included:
A $168,289 permit for roofing at the Vaska Theatre building, 618 NW 19th;
A $130,000 remodeling permit for a Champs Chicken restaurant inside the Fort Sill Apache market at 2405 E. Gore
A $100,000 remodeling permit for a real estate office at 2101 W. Ferris;
A $100,000 permit for a parking lot and security fence at Lockwood & Sons Construction, 2304 SW G; and
An $81,000 permit for a security fence at Brockland Learning Center, 6205 W. Ferris.
