The Comanche County Health Department will offer flu shots and the updated COVID-19 vaccine during two drive-through events in Lawton this week.

The first event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Comanche County Fairgrounds, 920 S. Sheridan. The second clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Farmers Market parking lot, 77 SW 4th.

Both vaccines are recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older. The health department will have the high-dose flu vaccine available for people 65 years and older.

The drive-through is open to the public and no appointment is required. Please bring your insurance card, if applicable. There is no out-of-pocket cost to receive the vaccines.

There is a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines available only for uninsured or underinsured, and those who qualify for the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program. At this time, the health department does not have the COVID-19 vaccine available to those with private insurance, but this can change at any time – and we recommend checking back soon about availability, according to a press release.

“Getting vaccinated against the flu and COVID-19 is especially important for people who are at high risk for serious illness from these diseases,” said Health Department Regional Administrative Director Brandie Combs. “This includes people who are 65 years of age and older, people with underlying health conditions, and pregnant women. Vaccines are safe and effective, and they have been proven to help prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death. COVID-19 vaccines also reduce the chance of suffering the effects of Long COVID, which can develop during or following acute infection and last for an extended time.”

According to the CDC, it is safe and effective to receive multiple immunizations, such as the flu and COVID-19 vaccines, during the same appointment. Check with your healthcare provider if you have questions.

If you have any questions, contact the Comanche County Health Department (580) 248-5890.
