DUNCAN — A Marlow man police believe was on methamphetamine during a high-speed chase tried to get the pursuit to end by saying he was an FBI agent.
Anthony Lee McAdams, 52, made his initial appearance Monday in Stephens County District Court where he received a felony charge of endangering others while attempting to elude police after former felony conviction, and misdemeanor counts of impersonating a public officer and driving under the influence of drugs, records indicate. Due to a prior conviction, he faces between 10 years to life in prison if convicted of the felony charge.
Duncan Police Officer Jason Downs stated he was traveling east on Oklahoma 7 around 7:45 p.m. Thursday when a silver Ford pickup traveling south was going around 100 mph. The officer tried to catch up, but the truck got up to 113 mph.
Downs caught up after the truck was forced to slow down behind two cars. Traveling close behind one of the cars, the truck swerved right and passed before making an erratic turn on the shoulder near a medical marijuana dispensary, the affidavit states.
As Downs approached, he stated the driver, McAdams, yelled he was an FBI agent and was under cover. When told to show his identification, he held up his middle finger and floored it southbound, according to the affidavit.
“Having been a police officer for more than 19 years and having worked with numerous Federal Agents, I knew this behavior was not that of a FBI Agent,” Downs stated.
The chase continued until the officer caught the truck at Camelback Road. McAdams rolled his window down and again screamed he was FBI before being ordered out of the truck at gunpoint, according to the affidavit. He refused to follow orders and again screamed he was an undercover FBI agent, the officer stated. After holstering his gun as McAdams neared, Downs stated he struck at the man with his baton.
McAdams got back in the truck and backup officers arrived and he was taken into custody. Downs stated the man smelled of alcohol and had pinpoint pupils consistent of methamphetamine use.
McAdams has been serving a seven-year suspended sentence for October 2023 convictions in Stephens County for unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession with intent to distribute, records indicate.
McAdams is being held on $50,000 bond for the new charges and another $25,000 bond for the conviction charges following a motion to revoke his suspended sentence.
