The City of Lawton’s solid waste division is offering resident two options for getting rid of their natural Christmas trees after the holiday, ensuring proper disposal and support of the community’s commitment to sustainability.
City officials said the most expedient option is to call the solid waste collection office at (580) 581-3428 between Dec. 30 and Jan. 8 to schedule a free, off-cycle pickup. These pickups will occur between Jan. 3 and Jan. 10. Only natural Christmas trees will be collected. Additional bulky waste, such as cardboard boxes, trash, or furniture, will not be accepted with the tree and may incur a standard unscheduled/non-compliant bulky waste fee of $133.35, city officials said.
In addition, natural Christmas trees placed curbside before the designated bulky waste pickup week for each area will be collected as manpower and equipment permit, but city officials said additional bulk waste should not be placed alongside the tree. Trees set out after the normal bulky waste pickup week or placed with other bulky waste may be subject to the $133.35 fee.
Normal bulky waste pickup weeks for January are scheduled: Area 1: Jan. 6–10; Area 2: Jan. 13–17; Area 3: Jan. 20–24; and Area 4: Jan. 27–31.
Additional information is available by calling the solid waste division at (580) 581-3428.
