A Lawton man is in jail on $100,000 bond after his children told police he’d choked them after calling his girlfriend by the wrong name.
Randy Knighton, 35, made his initial appearance Thursday in Comanche County District Court where he received three felony counts of child abuse, records indicate. Each count is punishable by up to life in prison.
The children’s mother told Lawton police the children had been with Knighton between May 18 and June 20. The kids’ grandmother went to Knighton’s home and the 8-year-old girl told her Knighton had choked her when she called his girlfriend by the wrong name, the probable cause affidavit states. The girl told investigators he’d also choked her 7-year-old sister when she tried to get involved and make him stop as well as her 5-year-old brother during the May 18 incident, Detective Sedona Warren stated.
The detective noted the children had no visible marks on them at the time of the July 12 interview.
As part of Knighton’s bond stipulations, he is to have no contact with the children. A bond reduction hearing is scheduled for Friday.
