Although not charged with murder, a Lawton man is being held for having the gun police say was used in the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
Brandon Woods, 20, of Lawton, made his initial appearance Monday in Comanche County District Court where he received a felony charge of possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, records indicate. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
However, the prosecution has the ability to amend the charge at a later date.
Lawton police were called around 3 a.m. Nov. 20 to a shooting at 1410 SW Park and arrived to find Shawn Davenport dead in a pool of blood, the probable cause affidavit states. The suspect, Woods, was caught by police around two blocks away.
Detective Marcus Rucker stated Woods shot Davenport twice while inside the house. Woods tossed the gun, a revolver in a yard a couple of houses down, the affidavit states. Police recovered it in the yard of 1406 SW Park.
Woods has a June 13 felony conviction in Comanche County for aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs, records indicate.
Held on $100,00 bond, Woods returns to court at 3 p.m. Feb. 11, 2025, for his preliminary hearing conference.
